from josh the sewer
Here is a little bit about me and my sewing (I don’t have, at the moment, any great projects to share):
1. I can use the sewing machine well and even sew straight
2. I suck at pinning
3. Patterns still don’t make much sense to me, I can make a garment but I need my co-host to help me figure out “what’s next?”
4. I have a problem cutting the seams to close, this has resulted in having to re-sew the seams on the raglan shirt I am working on and a hole in my pants (errrrrrr)
5. I like cotton “chillin‘ shirts”
6. I once (not too long ago) “incredible hulked” a shirt I was working on; I thought the sewing was wrong, but turns out the cutting was bad. It was a muslin, so not a huge loss
7. I am not very good with scissors
8. I have 8 yards of double knit polyester in the garage, but I hate it
9. My goal is to make a really nice “throwback” baseball jersey and to use scissors well; one is possible, the other, maybe not
10. I really like texture
11. I am obsessed with piping (but I like to call it pipping (soft “i”).

hi! I just read your comment (with your link to the blog) on Lisa’s blog- uhandblog. How great to see the skirts you made from the book! I’m so inspired. I always think I’m going to sew cute summer skirts, but then I end up cutting up all the fabric for purses and buying one skirt at Target for the whole summer. I know. For shame. The reason I felt the need to comment is because I laughed out loud at your list of sewing stuff- especially the ” I ‘incredible-hulked’ a shirt”… oh my god. That is so hilarious. I described that very same action to my friend over the holidays when I did a show wearing a vintage dress that self-destructed on my body. The thread on the seams were rotten. I wanted to go home and video tape myself busting the back of it with one swift movements of my arms forward since I knew I could totally do the Hulk (and the dress was green silk), but I refrained and decided just to repair the dress. Forgive my late night rambling- it’s all just to say, you have a hilarious sense of humor and I enjoyed reading your blog! Liz
I can’t believe you linked me over here from the Sewing Emergency and the had no photos! I wanted to see the “hulked” shirt. A picture vs 1000 words and all…
Anyhow, glad to see the local police here in NZ made you smile.
